  • work

for work, i call patients.  i call and i ask them if they'd like to schedule appointments.  sometimes i call and the number has been changed.  sometimes i call and i get a wrong number.  today i called, and instead of carmen, i got chris (male).

me: may i please speak to carmen?
chris: there's no carmen.  this is chris.
me: oh, so there's no carmen ________ there?
chris: no, i'm chris.  would you like to talk to me?
me:   (thinking: i don't get it, why would i talk to you?)  umm... no, i was calling for carmen ________.
chris: this is chris __________ & you sound nice.  don't you want to talk to me?  do you like long walks on the beach?  i'm an aquarius...
    me: *click*

uhhh yeah.  apparently that has never happened at our work before.  luuuuucky me!    hahah...

  • I'd be a bad wife (...in 1939)

Being a wife must be tough.  You have to make sure you darn your husband's socks regularly (#3), keep snacks in the refrigerator for late eating (#21), but not serve too much from tin cans or the delicatessen store (#38), give your husband shampoos or manicures (#35), AND keep yourself dainty, perfumed and feminine (#39).  I wear red nail polish (#5), the seams in my hose are often crooked (#7), and I love to walk around the house in stocking feet (#50).  At this rate, I'll never get married!

I hope my future husband is well liked by men, courageous--not a sissy (#42), tries to keep me equipped with modern labor saving devices (#46), but doesn't get angry if the newspaper is disarranged (#26), talk of the efficiency of his stenographer (#28) or is a patent medicine addict (#36).  But I think the deal breaker will be if he writes on the tablecloth with pencil (#37)!

      tests for husbands & wives

I first saw this Test for Husbands & Wives on Ryan's Xanga, but when I read all of them, I was cracking up, especially the Wife's Chart!  Thank goodness life has changed some since then!

wow.  sorry xanga!  i hadn't really realized how long it's been since i've been here.  but, since i'm here, i'll throw up a few pictures (in no order at all!) & hope to win some eprops!    (if you've already seen these pix on fb, you can skip this entry, unless you want the narrative)

since feb, i've been working, both at work and helping a few special friends get their weddings together...

after Stacey & Daniel's wedding i was off to Boston/NY for a week of relaxing (although it's not so relaxing when your boss is assigning work for you to do on your trip 2 hrs before your flight leaves & is calling you during the trip... but that's another story).  despite that, i had a good trip.  it was exactly what i needed after the busyness of march.  hooray for diane, felicia (no picture ), and all the NYers who took the time to hang out & loiter on street corners with me, trying to figure out where to go/what to eat!

  • adventures in riverside

google maps decided it no longer likes me.  I've been doing observations at elementary schools in Riverside, and for 3 days g.maps has not led me astray (other than to the school that moved, but that's not g.maps' fault).  today g.maps told me that the school was at the intersection of 2 roads.  when I got there, I was literally at the crossroad of 2 unpaved muddy dirt roads with no street signs, in between an orange grove & a field.  I kid you not.  I was like, WTH, where is the school?!  there was literally nothing around that area but fields & trees.  it was so rural!  I tried to get back to the main road, but these narrow dirt roads w/ HUGE muddy potholes (imagine the dirt roads on the Rez, but muddy and I'm driving my little corolla!) were leading in circles through the fields & trees.  finally I saw a farmer (jean jacket & all) w/ his dog & pulled over to the side of the road, jumped out of my car (in my heels & slacks) to ask him if he knew where the school was.  he was super nice & gave me great directions back, but I think it was obvious before I said anything that I was completely lost.  haha... now I know how Alice felt when she went through the rabbit hole & all of a sudden ended up in a random place & had no idea how to get out!

  • blaaaauuuuugh

     (read: "blog")

hahha... i am supposed to be writing a personal statement, so of course, what am i doing, but blogging!    why is it that i can fill 500 words of a blog so easily, but when it comes to talking about why i want to go back to school, i can't even pull together a few sentences ...and don't even get me started on 3-5 double spaced pages!  blaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuugh!  maybe in true college-procrastination-fashion, i need to wait until midnight the night before it's due in order to "be inspired"  *sigh*  i've already read all my blogs, checked my facebook, taken my turns on scrabbulous, rearranged my playlist, and checked every email i own.    i guess it's time to go back to writing.... (word count: 127 hhaha.. )

  • right on the bullseye

Hello.  My name is Charissa and I am addicted.

I have been to Target 5 times in 4 locations in the past 6 days.  In my defense, not all of the trips were planned--I was not planning to go to Target on Tuesday... but then Joan & I were at the Galleria & they have that huge Target.  And I was not planning to go to Target on Thursday... but I was getting super sleepy driving home & needed to stop for a while (what can I say, there are three Targets visible off the 10 on my way home from work!)  And I was not planning to go to Target today... but my sister wanted to go on the way to grandma's house.  It started out with a mission to get little boy's pajamas for a gift... and then I found something that I wanted in a different size... and then I needed a gift exchange gift... and then I needed supplies for Christmas cards... and then I just needed to kill some time, and Target is a great place to do that!  ...and I still need to return something, so I guess I will be going again next week.

If I could only shop at one store for the rest of my life, can you guess what it would be?

  • telemarketers are great

    [phone rings twice]

[enter: Charissa      Charissa walks to phone & contemplates answering (b/c only telemarketers call during the day).  phone rings again.  she picks it up]

    Charissa: Hello?

    Male Telemarketer: Is this Lawrence?

    C: [rolls eyes]  Uhh... no.

MT: Oh, then this must be Mrs. Lue, right?

    C: No, I'm not.

MT: Oh, then who is this?

C: [getting impatient but still polite] Neither of them is home right now, can I take a message?

MT: Yeah.  This is, you know, Lee. [pauses for recognition]

C: [thinks: is this guy serious?]

MT: I wanted to, uh, let them, uh, know that they're... [trails off]

C: [thinks: ...that their refrigerator is running?]

MT: 'Cause they can do something to their mortgage....

    C: They don't want to.

    [click]

wow... there are pushy & rude telemarketers, but this guy was just dumb or something!  he didn't even sound like he was calling from overseas... but he did sound asian.

  • thanksgivings... later

thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.  between family dinners & shopping & friend get-togethers & birthday celebrations, it was a really great holiday... until the weekend, when my mom, my aunt, uncle, cousin, and 3+ members of the extended family all came down with stomach flu.  now my brother has it... and i'm scared i might be on the verge as well...

sooooo that means i'll have to upload & post pictures later.  but at least i'm all caught up with Heroes now.

  • the good ol' days

tonight Joan & I sat for 3 hours looking at pictures from college & laughing about all the stupid things we did, the ugly clothes we wore & how much your weight can fluctuate in a few years. I cringe to imagine what our kids will say about us, if we are already embarrassed by these things only 7-8 years later!

(un)fortunately, I don't have many pictures of those days loaded on this computer, but just looking through these brings a smile to my face. haha... I'm sure they'll hate me for posting pictures of them online, but most of these people probably don't read xanga anymore anyway!

I am so blessed to have known these people, and I am so blessed that I still get to see them every now & then!

  • 448 days later...

the other day I re-read some old posts from when I was still in NY, especially in the month or so before I moved home, and I was thinking about my mindset at the time--wondering if God wanted me to go home or stay in NY, where I would work, what I would do...

eventually I knew that God wanted me to come home & even that He wanted me to "take a break" for a while.  in my mind, the break might be a month or two, but as weeks and months stretched into a year (and then more), I still felt that when the time (God's time) was right, it would work itself out...

I guess October tends to be the "right" time!    Thanks God!  I don't even have to give up things like discipleship & going to Kara's vball games (I don't think)!

**edit** JOB... it's a JOB... not a boy!  (stephen!  pot stirrer!)  trust me, xanga is not the place i'd tell you about a boy!  haha
